a hopeless pitiable existence. interpreting the growingly iconic smile as the demon's eager anticipation instead of creepy artifice rung most true—read: scary—for me when louis turns to Skye after being "possessed". there's so much impending doom in its warped pleasure and its sickening, especially when you know its coming. I've never seen a film embody a tagline so hard, one of the meanest films to date.
The fact that the scares in this movie at one point consist of the toilet-seat repeatedly being put up should tell you enough.
