Solid gothic romance/drama. Phyllis Calvert and Ella Raines in particular convince – more than Robert Hutton it must be said. Leo G. Carroll sits atop the cast list in terms of performance though, possibly as one might expect.

I would have never watched this film were it not for its inclusion in the Universal Noir #2 box set from Indicator.

I have no idea why it's in there though. Programming error, quality control oversight? It is as much a noir as…

In an effort to make Cynthia Rothrock a star outside Hong Kong Golden Harvest called upon the man who helmed Bruce Lee's Enter The Dragon 15 years earlier: Bob Clouse.

This was a wonderful watch. Generally with so many Shaw remasters being released from the boutique labels I can rely on being familiar with one or two of the cast. Both leads here were completely new to me and after watching I want to see more.

The Big Boss: Return to Thailand

    ★★★

Solid look at the Thai locations used in The Big Boss. Satisfying as pretty much all key places are still, amazingly, extant.

Matt Routledge and his interpreter manage to extract decent colour interviews from Pak Chong locals who saw the filming, notably a lady who was 14 back in 1971 who lived opposite the ice factory and wandered on to set a few times too!

This is part of the enormous Arrow Bruce Lee box set and is a welcome extra in a collection bursting with high-quality supplemental material.
