    Solid gothic romance/drama. Phyllis Calvert and Ella Raines in particular convince – more than Robert Hutton it must be said. Leo G. Carroll sits atop the cast list in terms of performance though, possibly as one might expect.

    This was a wonderful watch. Generally with so many Shaw remasters being released from the boutique labels I can rely on being familiar with one or two of the cast. Both leads here were completely new to me and after watching I want to see more.

    The whole films gels beautifully. The initial set up, the regular fights (which are brilliantly choreographed), the inevitable training sequence is fresh and exciting and the finale is just the right length.

    Every time I watch Yuen Biao in a starring, lead role I am blown away.

    Sure Sammo and Jackie have the more lauded back catalogues but Biao has always been my favourite of the trio.
