The Monkey 2025
NEON's hard working golden goose, Osgood Perkins' new film (we're getting another one at the end of this year), similarly to his first, starts loosing the ball in the second half. Could it be that midway through he starts getting too excited about his next project? Who's to say? In the case of Longlegs I've found it frustrating, but less so with The Monkey and I am a bigger fan of the latter.

Made my dad turn off his Antonio Banderas DTV action film for this and I am glad I did. Very riveting cat and mouse game with a great setting, which unfortunately started veering of the runway near the end as my suspension of disbelief started to crumble down with each new escalation. Crossing 2024
I didn’t want the film to end, leave the characters and leave Istanbul. If it wasn’t for my damn aisle seat I would have still sat there as the credits rolled and broke down.
My god, what a beautiful and powerful film this was. My enjoyment and emotional attachment to it might have been amplified by my longing for home, but I can’t discredit Levin Akin’s fantastic portrayal of Istanbul either. He clearly has a love for this unparalleled city.(Very glad a key scene in this film takes place right outside of Gizli Bahçe…ifykyk)
