  I really liked the relationship between rose and joel, but a lot of the time i felt like being hit over the head with plot tedium and on the nose dialogue. Theres an earnest thread about outliving trauma and siblings and choosing partners but it feels washed out with so many characters spread thin (a lot of whom have the same dynamic in each scene, psychotic/sane) and dissonant with this backhanding comedic tone at the beginning.

  the background and detail design is so breaktaking and makes for so many beautiful and arresting extreme long shots. The sound design really transported me. The character animation is stunningly life-like at times and static when it needs to. Altogether it culminates into an interesting lens to speak on what drive motivates someone to pick the path they do.
