    Really struggled with this as, like many, it was one of my most anticipated of the year. I simply did not enjoy it. I didn’t find it funny, clever, or thrilling. Which are the usual hallmarks of any Joon Ho flick. 

    I bought into the concept, bought into the setting, and bought into the colonialist story. But the script kept whiplashed back and forth from concept to concept. Why did we spend so much time on this silly love triangle? …

    Where do I begin? It’s a revitalizing breath of fresh air during a very stale year for film. I was lucky enough to be able to see this presented in its native 35mm format and it was just a really special experience.

    A very, very poor man’s 12 Angry Men without the nuance, sharp writing, and… something to actually say. 

    Writing this several days later, I’m honestly struggling to remember much about it. It’s a pretty fascinating concept and the trailers absolutely had me hooked. There’s even a couple moments that legitimately grabbed me but then they fizzled out almost as quickly as they appeared. There’s also a strange racial element within the jurors that I found to be really troubling and strange.
