Classic. A well-balanced mix of laughable 80s moments, with Gene Hackman being Gene Hackman, woven into a serious and compelling detective tale. The film definitely has some standout moments.
However, I didn’t find Willem Dafoe as impressive as usual. Imo his typical unnerving and mysterious energy didn't quite mesh with the straight-edged and principled FBI agent character. On the other hand, Gene Hackman seamlessly fits into his veteran grizzly Sheriff role like an old pair of jeans.
