The animation, score, voice acting, and overall steampunk aesthetic are all absolutely stellar. And I could have watched an entire movie of that sole robot tending to their overgrown landscape (which is probably why I like WALL•E and The Wild Robot so much). But I’d be lying if I said this thing didn’t drag. I’m willing to admit some of that’s down to personal preference. I mean I do rapidly lose interest any time an action scene begins… and there’s a…

I think people forget how solid this is, especially in the wake of its altogether underwhelming sequels. Yes, the CG and overall production design can appear a little dated, but the practical effects absolutely hold up. The jokes are clever, the universe inventive, and the performances ground this with a very real amount of heart.

Of course, these people are absolute hypocrites doing the very same things they claim their "enemies" in the Middle-East are doing. But having…

Sometimes I feel like a crazy person when watching this film. While there's any number of movies out there on which my opinion differs considerably from that of general audiences, there's no other movie that I love this much while also being this reviled by critics and audiences upon release. Seriously, this is one of my very favorite movies and it's got a 55% on Rotten Tomatoes.

But for those who don't know (which is probably a lot of people…
