  it’s hard to be objective and think in technical terms when reviewing this movie because, as a jewish woman, it was incredibly painful to watch. so much sympathy is afforded to shylock in this rendition — none of his lines are altered, yet al pacino’s tone and intention when delivering them aided by the direction led to an incredibly complex portrayal which made shylock no angel, but a character you could not deny feeling pain for. i’ve heard horrific stories…
