  Fantastic Planet 1973

  A strange and abstract look at how fragile we really are as a species. Humans (or Oms) are treated in the same way that we treat rodents or insects that we step on beneath our feet everyday. the truly alien feeling the film conveys in it's landscapes and technology is so creative and weird. The absolutely incomprehensible horror and dread that I felt while watching makes me want to watch it over again and again.

  Once I knew what kind of movie this would be I was fully in. It's immensely stupid and over the top in the best way possible but I don't think I'd get much out of a rewatch. I had a fun time with it.

  This is probably Eggers most accessible film in a similar way The Northman was. Dripping in an oppressive, gothic darkness that almost never relents. Not afraid to show scenes that most horror films wouldn’t even dare touch and it’s surprisingly horny. You can’t tell me that the tagline being,”Succumb to the darkness.” in combination with that poster isn’t trying (and succeeding) to attract the dark fantasy smut crowd. Eggers has cemented himself as one of the best horror filmmakers working today and I’ll be seated for any project he decides to make.
