i do love a good form-a-band-and-watch-it-all-go-to-hell story. i grew up listening to the soundtrack and loving their version of “try a little tenderness” so much but had not actually watched the film until now. feels like it really catches that era of ireland and the people.

i don’t think i have watched this since it was out in theaters, but i’ve been listening to a lot of “what went wrong” lately and their episode on deadpool made me want to revisit it. there’s a lot i enjoy about it, but somehow i don’t think i found it as engaging as i did that first time. some really funny moments, though, and ryan reynolds really is the perfect deadpool.

see what happens when you give bela lugosi a good role, let him play dracula again? he does a REALLY good job. and this is in an abbott & costello movie.

i can’t believe lou costello thought this script was so bad. it’s such a perfect idea to have the monsters played straight and just throw the abbott & costello wackiness into it.

a classic, a family fave, i am pretty sure this is the film that actually introduced me to dracula, frankenstein’s monster, and the wolf man as a kid.
