I had forgotten so much about this movie since originally seeing it in the theater, and I have to say that a David Fincher fable is pretty enthralling.

I enjoyed this more than I did the first time around, and despite some of the CG looking a little… obvious, it’s handled with Fincher’s typical fastidiousness, so it ends up feeling more grounded compared to some of the modern examples of CG aging/de-aging that often rip us right out of the…

Wildly effective reframing of the haunted house film. Not particularly scary or unsettling, but tightly paced and presented as far more grounded than what we typically see in the genre. Creative cinematography, some inconsistent performances (though Chris Sullivan was terrific) and a story that stuck the landing.

Upon rewatching, I had to update my original two star review to a four star. This movie is excellent, and it has aged very well. One of the most compelling and thoughtful MCU films.

Thoughts I had while watching The Gorge:

No one knows how to light movies anymore.

This film gives us a glimpse into what FMV video games could’ve looked like if they hadn’t fallen out of style.

I think Miles Teller is a psyop perpetrated by a shadow cabal that wants to test the general public’s long-term exposure to anti-charisma.

I am absolutely convinced an earlier draft of this script was titled “The Hollow Men” and they fought tooth and nail to keep it.

At least it featured one of my favorite Yeah Yeah Yeahs songs.
