The beginning of an adventure on revisiting the comprehensive slate of Walt Disney Animation. I know for a fact I watched many of these when I was a child, but I figured this corner of cinema was deserving for some reconciliation.

For the case of Disney’s inception, sometimes the novelty of a piece just sweeps you away. Simplistic for today’s standards, but carries a genuine sense of authenticity. Short, sweet, and enduring with it’s beauty.

The French Connection utilizes its environment in an extremely alluring way. Stands alongside films such as Taxi Driver and Midnight Cowboy when it comes to capturing the crass, brutal ecosystem of crime and depravity. The narrative just also makes for some great technical accomplishments. The film was composed to a tried-and-true envelope that appears gritty and authentic. No wonder this film is renowned for its car chase — that last act was near phenomenal.

Narratively, it throws a lot of ideas at the wall, which felt overwhelming at points. The science fiction route is naturally expository and felt like an unexpected tonal departure for Bong Joon Ho. However, I don’t mean to…
