  I came to Luv in search of more work from who is now my favorite person in movie history: Elaine May. She plays third fiddle in this one, much to my initial chagrin, behind a very capable Jack Lemmon and a very good Peter Falk. Falk, for his own benefit but maybe to the detriment of the movie, is captivating, unflinching, and a step above what this movie ultimately deserves.

  All hail Sean Baker and his fantastic, oasis-in-the-desert-like realism. 

  Red Rocket follows Mikey, a former porn-star returned to his Texas hometown down on his luck. From there, a plot naturally develops, but it’s all on the back of Simon Rex’s incredible performance. The acting in this is next level, real, human, 3Dimensional acting that is rarified in todays movie landscape. The supporting performances are the same way, with real looking people acting out real people choices right incredible authenticity.
