A high definition copy of this recently popped up and it is a pleasure to cross another Tai Katō film off my list. The Sisters and I 1967
What starts out as a rather classic drama slowly builds up to an outstanding ending. The last 20 minutes of this film are perfect and proof that Kenji Misumi was one of Japan's greatest filmmakers.

Elegant Beast 1962
The Graceful Brute is a brilliantly scripted satire on greed in postwar Japan about a family in which money comes above anything else. This film is extremely well shot making the viewer a kind of peeping tom as the camera bores it's way into the family's apartment through windows and various openings and angles. In addition to this the cast is stellar making this film another underseen masterpiece of Japanese cinema.

Black Test Car 1962
Masumura's noir about two competing automotive manufacturers who stop at nothing to spy on each other depicts Japanese capitalism as a vile and rotten beast in which there are no good guys to be found. The success of the company comes before everything else in this brilliantly shot and scored film.
