  Very handsomely crafted movie that unfortunately did not elicit a single emotion from me. I would love it if Robert Eggers went back to spooky little stories about people going stir-crazy in the middle of nowhere, because the loving, bordering on fetishistic attention to detail in the production design and the period-accurate dialogue that added so much texture and personality to his first two movies feels a little lost when it’s spread out over such a wide canvas. 

  As an aside, I will be submitting this very good Lily-Rose Depp performance as evidence in the case of The People v. Sam Levinson.

  They did Tony Todd so dirty. His depiction of Candyman is so iconic, not just for the look but the voice, and the tragic origin, and what he represents. But he’s barely in this movie, and when he is he’s a shambling zombie who doesn’t speak. And Candyman doesn’t have the tragic origin anymore because Candyman is now seven different people. And the central metaphor, maybe the main thing that makes the character so scary, is now completely muddled and…

  Look, I like Art the Clown. He’s very creative, he’s got solid comic timing and he has an infectious energy. That being said, he’s out there doing things that are simply not ok.
