when his friend isn’t allowed to visit him at the observation center and right after when his mom barely cares for him and tells him he can’t come home—those are the two that break my heart.

I also see this in conversation with nickel boys, having just seen that.

couldn’t make it even twenty minutes in. I can appreciate Bertolucci’s films when men are the protagonists but when women are involved, it’s a disgusting male gaze.

I seem to be on an Ennio Morricone trip and I have no issue with that. This was my first giallo and I’m impressed. It dazzles on every visual level. The iconic framing of the husband sitting at his desk with the wife’s bent leg taking up half of the foreground. Dominique’s black dress entirely open on the sides. I was more surprised by the ending than any recent contemporary film.

A great study of fame and the cult of celebrity. It oscillates back and forth between whether Lonesome is the problem or the people around him. Of course, the answer is both. Predictable in a sense yet still compelling.

    An unintentionally well-paired movie
with my last watch, Scorsese’s King of Comedy.
