The original Alien is one of my favorite films of all time. The claustrophobic atmosphere mixed with the groundbreaking special effects really made a terrifying and easily-to-rewatch classic. For years I have been hoping for an Alien film to capture that atmosphere and terror and lo and behold we have that film. The writing in this makes the writing in the video games look like Shakespeare
Quite simply this is one the most definitive and influential Kaiju movies. Taking a different approach to subsequent Godzilla movies, Godzilla has a darker and more serious tone. The movie also has a very interesting message it wants to send out: Humanity shouldn’t play god. This is presented through showing the consequences of nuclear weapons and through the oxygen destroyer later in the film. Overall, my favorite Kaiju movie and a great way to introduce the world to Godzilla! 5/5
I’ve been a James Cameron fan for a long time and this film and its sequel are a big part of why. This absolutely blew my mind when I was 9, due to its incredible visuals, brilliant atmosphere and great action. Rewatching it now I still am blown away by the cinematography and just the brilliant visuals by 2009’s standards and even today’s standards.
