  As a road-trip Odyssean thriller, this is very engaging. The set-pieces are intense and effective at captivating you. Pretty much every one of these scenes effectively builds tension and highlights the stressful, quiet, confusion of war. There are so many moments where you’re just waiting for the pin to drop, and when it does you really feel it.   Usually when these types of movies switch to the family drama I get pretty bored, but I found here it was really compelling! The performances and writing really elevate the family dynamic. You really sense the history between everyone in Monk’s family. Its def not finished off cleanly but its more than enough with everything else the movie has going on.
