Battleship Potemkin 1925
To modern sensibilities, Battleship Potemkin is a better historical document than a movie, but the fast pace of Eisenstein’s montages doesn’t make it feel as stilted as other silent films. For being a century old, this shit holds up.

Conclave 2024
Feels a little too much like this was made for the Oscars committee and incidentally the public got to see it as well. BUT, Ralph Fiennes, John Lithgow, Lucian Msamati, Isabella Rossellini - everyone’s on fire here. Though I’m not sure how it all adds up at the end. There’s an effort made here to make Papal politics seem Relevant™ to American audiences, so every social issue Berger could think of was ham fistedly put into the script.
