I liked Eggers' first two movies, but I feel like he doesn't have very many ideas or very much artistic inspiration. Those first two movies pretty much covered it.

the premise sounds fun on paper, but the execution is completely devoid of creative inspiration

Very one-dimensional, repetitive, simple-minded, and obnoxiously executed. It felt like a film written by a teenager with a super rudimentary grasp of its theme(s) and subject matter. It would've worked better as a short film because it could've gotten its point across easily in 10 minutes, except we had to sit there for 140 minutes.

There are three tiers of 'favorite movies.'
Tier 1 movies are the ones you get defensive about -- probably because you're subconsciously unconfident about your own opinion.
Tier 2 movies are the ones that you confidently enjoy, so you're completely indifferent to other peoples' criticisms.
And then there's tier 3. These are the rarest movies. These are the ones that affect you on such a level that when somebody says they suck you just feel bad for them because they'll never get to experience what you do.

I Saw the TV Glow is a tier 3 movie.
