The uncanny valley element of this is hard. The visuals are beautiful though.

    ★★★★★

A near masterpiece. One of Sean Baker’s great talents is being able to tell real stories of sex work but also have conversations about cinema. Anora is both an excellent story and also a terrific conversation with the history of cinema.

A great film from a great filmmaker. The entire second act is one of the funniest, best edited sequences of the decade.

    It Ends with Us

A morally repugnant film that completely glosses over the terror and fear many victims feel when trying to leave a domestic violence situation. Money, insurance, relationships, all neatly tied into a bow to satisfy the audience need for a “happy” ending. A complete joke.

Some nice chemistry between the actors gives this a star. But a failure of a film. Shame on everyone involved.

Led with a terrific lead performance, and an expert decision to cut any melodrama, The Surrogate comes in right in the middle of the action and never lets up.

I don’t want to give any plot points away as they build so well on each other and may ruin it. Let’s just say it’s 90 minutes of straight action, not action in the Hollywood sense, but action in that every scene uses full advantage of its space, it’s camera, and most importantly, it’s lead actress, to constantly be moving.
