  I liked this movie for a number of reasons, and I understand the criticism completely, but I am a sucker for good romance in any movie. 
  I actually felt properly suspended by what I was watching and the whole thing was on my mind for 3 or 4 days afterwards.
  Will rewatch at a later date.

  A gothic masterpiece, a remake of one of the most influential films of all time. The themes of religious horror and the terror of the unknown run like water through this movie. Repressed sexuality and superstition play big parts in this movie. Acting was excellent and my only complaint being there was not enough blood.
