The introduction of the dog is Spielbergian in its build-up of tension and careful, gradual reveals. The fourth wall breaking children commentary is more elegantly applied and integral to the film than Megalopolis’ clumsy effort. With buckets of charm, clear visual storytelling, clever scripting and foreshadowing this is better than it has any right to be. Together with its predecessor among the top releases of 2024.

Tummy Tom and the Lost Teddybear 2024
Movie of the year contender. Better visual storytelling, subtle foreshadowing and more charm than any other film this year.

They Caught the Ferry 1948
The best of the Dreyer shorts. You sense Dreyer’s mastery in the symbolism (and obvious moral) of the skeleton truck catching up with the couple, or the girl’s white coat visually contrasting them with the other motorcycles. Some nicely brisk pieces of storytelling (the rail crossing, the interlude at the gas station) as well as the radical but wholly successful departure from Dreyer's signature directing style, make this well worth the 11 minutes
