  For me this movie attempted to have a pureness of heart that Hitchcock does not personally possess and fails to sell its final attempted message of neighborly care. At the same time I suspect Hitchcock suffered from the Hays Code and would love to host a seance where I ask him how he would have truly ended his films if he could give into his evil core.
