Swades, which means homeland in Sanskrit, hit me deeply. As a bideshi Bangladeshi, this kind of homecoming story truly speaks to me. Whereas Charanpur and Puran Dhaka have their differences, there are similarities in the warmth of the people, their quiet daily struggles, and how deep-rooted culture and tradition shape their lives.

Without spoiling, there’s a moment where Mohan sits in quiet devastation after witnessing first-hand the suffering of the poor, left without any social safety nets. That scene absolutely…

A grand, sweeping epic with stunning set design and a gorgeous AR Rahman soundtrack. I absolutely adore Jashn-e-Bahara which is pure sweetness. Hrithik and Aishwarya looked absolutely regal, and that sword-fighting scene was one of the highlights of the film. Akbar was portrayed as a righteous and tolerant ruler, truly trying to unite rather than divide. Hrithik captured that balance of warrior emperor and just ruler so well.

An absolute epic. They just don’t make romance films like this anymore. SRK and Preity delivered some of their best performances, with my beloved Rani Mukerji adding yet another powerhouse role to her name with the portrayal of the fierce and compassionate trailblazer, Saamiya Siddiqui. The film beautifully captures both sides of Punjab and attempts to unite two nations at odds. The poem at the end wrecked me. The waterworks were unreal, I tell you.

    Incredible soundtrack, btw. Lata Mangeshkar…

Yeah, this was a much needed rewatch as an adult and it passed the test. It was beautiful and full of heart. Rohan's persistence to unite his family was so moving. The Chandni Chowk scenes were super colourful too, loved how united everyone was there, regardless of religion.
