FLOW is a perfect example of what sets animated film apart as a medium. While the quality of animation is somewhat rudimentary compared to higher production films, the movement of the camera, lingering examination of the scenery and animal characters, and langorious pace set FLOW apart. The animal players are very close approximations of their real life proxies, but have a whimsical humanity that wouldn't be acheivable with flesh-and-blood animals. The story's conclusion is darkly ambigous and draws the tenor of the animals' quest into a haze, leaving the viewer satisfied but still questioning.
