Uhh…not me thinking this was directed by Pasolini. Great screenplay, okay movie.

I gotta think more about The Brutalist and what it means to me…but in the meantime shoutout to whoever that cast Isaach de Bankole in this movie.  💜

This is a movie of highs and lows, of two separate lives, that of an artist, and a Jewish immigrant. We see Laszlo achieve tremendous success and recognition for his talent. We also see him going through what can be considered the true pit of despair in the forms of poverty, loneliness,…

what is this swedish silent movie from the 20s and why am I crying? a morality tale through and through that gave kubrick the inspiration for that scene in the shining. oh yeah and the director also played the main guy. what a ride (literally).

Admittedly I am not a huge fan of the Gus Van Sant’s movies I’ve seen even though I always tend to like his subject matters. Here I am a little on the fence about the approach to telling this particular story. Yes Suzanne is vain and calculated and a psycho, but I also find her a bit one dimensional. Joaquin Phoenix gave a performance so devastatingly good that it actually overshadowed Nicole Kidman’s at times.
