Original Cast Album: Company 1970
🎶Deeply maladjusted/never to be trusted🎶
I’ve been listening to Company a lot this week so I threw this on. It’s not even my personal #1 Sondheim show (I’m an Assassins girl) but I do think it’s one of the best musicals of all time and probably his masterpiece. When he’s like “Lyric writing, I sort of fell into”…insane thing to say as people are singing a song that you wrote that rhymes “personable” with “coercin’ a bull.” In a perfect world this movie is six hours long.

Mickey 17 2025
Kind of the midpoint between Snowpiercer and Okja in terms of sci-fi worldbuilding and also how much I liked it. The Trump stuff is obvious and annoying (Ruffalo bad, Collette not doing anything she hasn’t done before) but everything else is fun. I will just never be mad about Robert Pattinson doing a wacky voice, and there’s a scene between him and Naomi Ackie that is genuinely moving and romantic. Love the little baby alien bugs.

Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day 2008
If you ever find yourself thinking “I want to watch something but it’s late and I sort of vaguely have a headache, what is the most low-stakes, pleasant, inoffensive thing Netflix currently has to offer?” the answer is this movie, which is 90 minutes of pretty period costumes and Lee Pace playing the piano. Nailed it.

Spring Awakening: Those You've Known 2022
Is this a great documentary? Not really. But am I the kind of person who still has a visceral response to hearing "Don't Do Sadness"? Obviously, yes.
