I really love the uneasy and eerie technological atmosphere that is created. Reminds me of Serial Experiments Lain in regard to its vibes and ahead of its time themes of human connection (or lack thereof) that the internet brings. While scary and unsettling, to me this movie really excels not through its horror elements, but through its depiction of loneliness and longing to be connected. Similar to Evangelion, realizing that this is a film where the plot is not the…

An absolutely insane directorial debut from Yuasa with some of the most vibrant colors and batshit crazy sequences you will ever see.

I think this film greatly succeeds at showing Nishi’s perspective and feelings of himself and the world around him. The shift from taking everything for granted into appreciating the tiny things in life is obvious but impactful. At the same time it feels a…

Belated Pi Day double header. Sort of cool directorial debut that reminds me of others like Christopher Nolan’s Following or Shane Carruth’s Primer.

Funny story apparently Darren Aronofsky filmed a few shots for his new film at my Aunt/Uncle’s yacht club or something crazy like that. Don’t really know any details or to what extent its true but I remember them talking about this during Christmas.

The only good part was the movie finally ending and getting to hear Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots playing during the credits.

Life of Pi is a poetic tale that deals with religion, spirituality and the stories that come with life. About a week ago I saw a production of this at the Orpheum with super high quality sets and design and I honestly enjoyed it more than this adaptation. Regardless it is a very solidly directed movie with some cool vfx and a good story.
