  ohhh i’m getting crucified for this one. but. okay. i respect it from a filmmaking standpoint - it’s really well shot and directed, all the performances are strong, and it was surprisingly funny - it did look really good and had a clear identity to it. all the technical aspects where good and so i wanted so badly to like it. but, characters come above story in my personal enjoyment of film and i don’t know. the characters didn’t work…

  what do i even do with myself now

  oh my god. OH MY GOD. the cinematography, the sound designs, the costumes, the sets, the use of shadows, the love between thomas and ellen, the love between ellen and anna, the love between anna and friedrich. the way it honoured the original while still being its own, beautiful thing. i’m obsessed. god.
