Ken Russell pulled no punches in the creation of this masterpiece. You know you’re doing something right when the Vatican themselves vehemently condemns something you make. The fact that this is a true story boggles the mind, but paints the absurdity of religious piety and political power wrapped into sexual controversy in an all too familiar current light that isn’t so far fetched to imagine seeing in real time.
