  My fiancee's pick for movie night out of left field. I liked this way more than I expected I would but honestly the Jimmy Nakayama bit made me cry and I can't stand the fact a real person had to experience that. It hit home for me really hard and I cant explain why. Really great acting and effects and overall a solid movie, despite a few weaker points. Gud moovie

  Wait! I need a quote.

  This movie watches like a disjointed travel journal with flimsy and overall unlikable and unrelatable characters. There are snapshot moments that show the abject horror of war, but each moment is disconnected from the next and it feels like Garland got too excited and finished too early all over my face with this one. If he had an extra hour to play with it might've been a good movie. The scene with the snipers in the Christmas wonderland was awesome tho.

  A really fun movie with great character development and decent acting. It was pretty trippy to realize some people from New York sound like that, but aside from that jarring development, I had an easy time settling into the plot. I don't think it drags on too long and I think there are a couple moments that are really moving where I got chills.

  What I've heard called "the greatest war movie of all time" was definitely a spectacle to observe. Like I said in my Full Metal Jacket review, I'm decidedly not a war movie lady, but as I'm warming up to the genre, this feels like it was a great starting point to jump in with.
