This is a fun revenge film in a Hitchcock/French Cinema style. The plot does take its time so.a younger audience may find this too slow, but every part of this is deliberate and builds to the finale.

Den of Thieves 2018
Clearly inspired by Heat and The Usual Suspects, this is a cheaper produced popcorn flick. Nothing wrong with anything I mentioned above, it’s made to reach a different demographic than those other films.
I will throw out that I suspect many of the acting takes were done first take/only take, so they could focus time and budget in the action sequences.

The Black Phone 2021
I see some inspiration here from both The Shining and The Sixth Sense, but really this is an ORIGINAL film. If you’ve been complaining that Hollywood never makes anything new or original, you have to stop now.
The direction is also superb. This film does not drag. Like a good ‘whodunnit’, you are fed pieces of excitement to tease you steadily. The ending is overwhelmingly satisfying too.
The kids are awesome. It’s refreshing to see a brother and sister duo that 100% support each either. Even fight alongside each other.
