Pretty solid for the first half, felt murky around 70%, night time driving around in shady towns, good finish. This is part of the Miami Vice cinematic universe - Crockett retired to be corrupt up in Louisiana. The ominous structural puzzles of child custody and piss tests under grim fluorescent lights. Narcan. Tasers. The ease of inventing a 5 minute "investigation." The Chinese restaurant angle. Shaking bars on the corrections bus. The cowardly local officials who can't face anything directly.…
Unsettling, gritty, muted colors, bleak as hell. Much better than BlacKkKlansman at capturing the dour energy of white supremacists out west. Not an arch or humorous film. Shows how the cornerstone of this particular American plague got set up in the mountains. Notice how the cops are always flying down these narrow bridges, perfectly lit across the board. A solid recommendation.
You can really viscerally feel how Hunter S. (He retreats from mobbing fans in Vegas in a painful moment)
His hostility to the annoying British director of the film is great. Nice moments with Ralph Steadman here. For a work like this to nail perfectly that…
The groovy French patsy musician goes to Rio with his babefriend from the first movie, while a moody cop and the world's most awkward minister try to use him as bait in their rivalry to settle the score of the first one.
Very similar and funny supporting actors, cool design to it all - not too long, very French ending. Watch this right after the Pt 1.
The card recap intro at the beginning was quite well executed, efficient. It doesn't waste time.
