The 70s weren’t fucking around when it came to shocking cinema and this is no exception.  It’s transportive to another time and place: sweltering Summer, New York City, mid 70s.  The people, the traffic, the trash, the lights, the diners… it might as well be another dimension it’s such a different level of existence.

Taxi Driver takes you there and forces you to smell those steamy, stank ass New York streets

Gorgeous on 4K UHD.  The colors are vibrant as fuck right through the hypnotic closing credits sequence.

Wind-up monkey creates terror for twin brothers into adulthood.

Loud and obnoxious.  Abrasive and ugly.  Unappealing characters wall-to-wall.  And the CGI was godawful so none of the death scenes had any impact except wondering why they didn’t aim for more practical effects.

Too cocky and smug in its comedy… but didn’t have any right to be.  The jokes were lazy: “Huhuhhuh.  Ninja swords.  Cool.”

I was not in the right frame of mind to sit through this on a Monday.

A young girl's strange, erotic journey from Milan to Minsk.

This was fucking absurd.  It felt like a parody of erotic thrillers… but actually funny because there were parts where I laughed my ass off.

Glossy and has a nice music score.

I watched the unrated version.  You can access it as an “Extra” of the title on HBO Max, but I doubt it adds much.  There was a lot of bumping and grinding that went on a little long.  And I’m a perv.
