  I legit teared up when the old lady gave Kiki that cake.

  Kiki‘s Delivery Service is delightful in every sense of the word. Miyazaki once again creates a beautiful, picturesque world that you just want to live in.

  The pacing is spectacular, the comedy is spot on and it even joins the ranks of Jackie Chan’s Police Story by ending exactly when the narrative reaches its peak.

  I regret drinking a full can of Monster before watching this.

  The first act is a bit slow, but once the second act kicks off, this film just starts oozing anxiety and suspense.

  It’s also ridiculously fast-paced. No joke, I paused the movie to go to the bathroom thinking that I had only been watching for like 45 minutes, but it turned out it was almost over.

  The Lighthouse 2019

  Immediately grabs you with a legitimately bone-chilling score and haunting cinematography.

  Despite being shot in 4:3 black and white, this actually added to my immersion. With the backgrounds being so dark, the edges often bleed into the blackness, giving the sense that some scenes are actually in 16:9.

  It’s also terrifying. That shot of the mermaid swimming was literally the scariest fucking thing I’ve seen in years.

  10/10 performances from the two leads.

  I’m also a sucker for movies that use the Speilberg longtake shot re-frame technique.
