  It’s frustrating. I think this movie would be most enjoyable if you HADN’T already seen John Carpenter’s The Thing. This one’s a perfectly decent horror movie with some good scares, and I enjoyed it enough. But it fails in comparison to Carpenter’s in every way. The filmmakers (except whoever scrapped the practical effects in favor of CGI) clearly cared, and there are some fun Easter eggs, but the whole time I found myself wondering why I wasn’t just rewatching the original. Next up: Howard Hawks!
