  Varda once talked about how there’s less ego involved when filming documentaries (compared to fiction) because you have to let “your subject” take the reins and abandon the pre-established plan you had in mind before filming… But I feel like that journalistic quality she described is sooo clear here as well. You really do feel like a fly on the wall watching Vagabond. I found myself forgetting Mona was a fictional character and that’s probably because she isn’t really one…
