My first rewatch since release. I remember it devastating me back then. The horror of remembering AND forgetting — both completely unacceptable outcomes when you need to leave someone you love. This time around I found it so tedious and nervewracking. I do respect the film. Great intro from cinematographer Ellen Kuras at the Belcourt.
Oh lord I loved this film. A key plot detail is a bit far-fetched, but it all works so well, and with such quick humor, warmth and authenticity, that it doesn't matter. A scene in a therapist's office opened with a quick shot of a white noise machine, and I knew we were in good hands.
