This was such a return to form for a franchise that’s sometimes too ambitious for its own good. I love the world building and the lore, but the sum of its parts can get a bit gunked up. I maintain that 1/4/3/2 is the proper ranking.
That damn clown will forever haunt my nightmares this many years later. And I typically love clowns. Not this bleedy-eyed thicc boi tho.
Soderbergh has it and will never lose it. This was a tight hour and a half that never lets up. It’s taught, sexy, and filled with an incredible cast who delivers on all fronts. I wouldn’t be surprised if this ends up on my end of year best of list.
Special shout out to the costume designer who got to craft every single magnificent piece of clothing on both Blanchett and Fassbender.
I can’t begin to stress how much I loved this movie. Also, how glad I am that Diablo Cody is back in the spotlight. Her writing and Williams directing is something I’d love to see again in the future. As for the movie, it’s colorful, funny, dark, and has a ton of heart.
