A supremely underrated comedy about spreading your wings, being yourself, and the search for freedom.  Some of the story elements have aged really well, and some really poorly; it’s pretty funny nonetheless. Most notably, this is the first Robin Williams’ role that showcased his dramatic range, and he drops another 50-pt triple double here. He was the man and is truly one of the greatest ever.

Of all the movies I joking claim as my biopic, this is probably my favourite one. Shoutout my dad and shoutout my gangster mentor named Sonny who took me under his wing and showed me the ways of the streets.

This movie constantly throws incredible life lessons at the audience, but it never comes across as preachy or pretentious. A coming-of-age family story that showcases perfect lead performances, features one of the best soundtracks ever, and masterfully uses ‘60s New York as a backdrop.

The camera slowly zooming on De Niro ripping a cig as Sunshine of Your Love plays will forever be one of my favourite shots in film history. This movie is incredible, with the first half being some of my favourite cinema ever… but it does not touch the first two Godfathers with all due respect. Nay, this movie does not exist without them.

What an absolute trip this movie is. It’s like Taxi Driver meets A Beautiful Mind, shot like a Beastie Boys music video and mixed with some kind of drug that I don’t know the name of. Pi strikes the perfect balance of being confusing and ambiguous; enough to keep me intrigued, but not so much that I feel cheated, like I do with David Lynch films.
