1917 2019
Wow. Initially I wasnt sure if the continuous shot concept would take away from the film, but I was almost immediately proved otherwise; it just works. I have never been so immersed in a film and I doubt I ever will in that same way again. Kudos to the special/visual effects teams because damn, what a task. Even if you aren't a fan of war films, I urge you to give this a chance, especially with the events we are surrounded by today. Also Andrew Scott's brief appearance alone should be enough to sell it.

This is a very strong statement but I am already certain that Jojo Rabbit is my film of the year. Taika's way of alternating between his classic light-hearted tone with raw emotion is so seamless that it takes a second to clock the severity of the situations, but when you do, oh boy do you feel. The casting is perfect, paired with the ever-beautiful score by Gaicchino makes for a piece of cinema you cannot miss out on.
