you can tell exactly how it's gonna go, but it's serviceably silly along the way.
this film is a perfect adaptation of a perfect book, as both are bold and deliberate in their treatment of the horrifyingly true subject matter. like colson whitehead's novel, this insists on dispeling the comforting reassurance that these problems remain squarely in the past, and the path forward is unclear but lies somewhere between the differing dispositions of elwood and turner.
ramell ross brings so much to this story that is specific to the film medium. the use of montage, music…
nothing better than a movie where every word that comes out of every person's mouth is completely fucking stupid.
i feel tremendous sympathy for the creature. there's something in his graceful way of swimming about to the modest underwater arcadia he knows too well. the humans came and messed it all up for him. he probably didn't even know what loneliness was until he saw that woman swimming and he bristled beneath her, ever so timidly reaching towards her feet. of course he wanted to take her back to his grotto, that place is glorious!
it's tragic, really.
