Badass and pretty cool. Tomisaburo plays a Japanese James Bond on a mission of peace.....by killing a whole legion of folks. We see here some beats lifted directly from the Zatoich series, some Western style standoffs, and a duo of dangerous femmes. This is all a wonderful potpourri of pulpy fun, set with a Morricone style score and a great historico-political setting of pre Meiji tensions between the Bakufu and upsurgent Satsuma. Extraordinarily uninteresting. Eggers has finally delivered a dud. Despite his usual style being present, the movie never seems to really come to life. It was gross at times to be sure and the actors seemed to be trying pretty hard at times. But what can be said when no scene felt interesting to watch?
