  nothing special here. mildly interesting cinematography w a very predictable plotline. i should’ve have set my expectations so high given that this was a motorcycle ad but i did and was severely underwhelmed

  two stars simply for the black sapphic relationship. everything else was bad. i feel like it tried so hard to do something that it wound up doing absolutely nothing. so much happened, yet nothing happened. it was a pointless film trying to make itself seem nuanced and different. also the whole “singer whom the audience never heard sing” thing was so random??? lena waithe when i catch you.

  films approaching the topic of prostitution/sex work without making spectacle out of it has only become slightly more common in recent years, so for this film to do so in the 80s is just..wow. really manages to find a perfect balance between generally portraying sex work as “just another job” and depicting the little nuances that show how the sex industry is exploitative and harmful in its own unique way. realistic and honest and informative and just…really good.
