    This film is the definition of style over substance. It’s ridiculous but it’s also quite fun, as any good film featuring Nic Cage should be really.

    It begins as a vibey neon 80s synth powered atmospheric film and descends into a psychedelic revenge porn thriller. The colour, sound, and editing are all working here to create an in your face aesthetic which is pretty enjoyable. It’s pretty dreamlike and if you just go along for the ride its good entertainment…

    I don’t think this is a bad film by any means. I think the execution is pretty good for the most part and it’s quite visually striking and thematically really interesting, exploring censorship and the limits of taste in media and the potential viewer impact of hyper-violent films. That’s also kind of where I don’t like the film; it doesn’t seem sure of its message and I think loses itself for the sake of a dramatic ending.
