The setup was 10/10, all the way up until his capture. The payoff being “it’s a satanic orb in a doll’s head” was a let down.
I’m in love with the cinematography though.
For a film so clearly inspired by Silence of the Lambs, I had hoped this film would also keep its reveal within reality, not lean into the supernatural. There’s nothing wrong with supernatural (Hereditary did it great, for one), I just thought the film stopped being scary when the mystery was answered with “It was just the devil.”

As a longtime fan of the original, this one had big shoes to fill for me.
Both movies are corny summer blockbusters, but the best parts of the new one were just copying beats from the original. Shockingly little was new here.
