Feels odd to give 5 stars to a story so treacherous — but that’s precisely the reasoning behind my high praise. To bottle up the bloom of adolescence is a success in itself; to then shred its petal fibers through the gears of reality in such a visceral way is a feat.
Unusual, raw, and cinematically harrowing.
Love and pop speaks to the school girl in all of us … one who just wants to dance around the beach fire.
