I needed to sit on Synecdoche, New York for a month or so before I even attempted to put into words what it meant to me. In short: while I understand it's divisive reception, it's one of the most impactful movies I've ever seen. It makes me want to go back and "curve" my gradebook for other 5 star movies downward in order to not cheapen the distinction.

The title card is Michael Jordan, Bugs Bunny, Wayne Knight, and Charles Barkley in that order which feels gradually more insulting for each subsequent star listed.
I also remember them gassing up how good Lola Bunny was at basketball but she was equally a productive scorer as Wayne Knight with almost a whole games’ playtime; embarrassing for her.
Lovely. I appreciate that the plot wasn’t particularly twisty and you kind of just floated along with it with that dreamlike, ambient score.
Melissa Joan Hart falls in passionless asexual-love with an Ageless Christmas Warlock, despite the fact she’s had so much work done on her lips that they crawl around her face like Rorshach’s mask.
Love that the central conflict is that she can’t move home to fall in love because of her lucrative podcast gig as if the central conceit of a podcast you can’t just record it into your phone literally anywhere short of underwater. Then again maybe this movie…

Gotta give it up for the audacity of this movie, especially with a title as anodyne as this one. A lot going on here: The catholic priest getting woke, but then simultaneously outing the gay portion of the flock in front of the entire congregation? The fuck-me dress she wears to her wedding after party while still in a church?! THEN you find out the protagonists guardian angel is the angel of her friends stillborn son?!? All in a tight 90?! They crazy for this one.
